Hello and welcome to me!

I recently found out that I am pregnant and thought now would be a good time to jump on the Blog bandwagon.  I'm starting this blog as a part of my pregnancy journey.

I have been married to my best friend Brian for the last 2 years (September 13).  This is my first pregnancy, but I will look to my husband as the experienced parent since he has 2 beautiful daughters, Whitney-13 and Valeri-10.

We started our baby journey even before we were married.  About 5 years ago my hubby and I started getting serious and wanted to move in together, but there were a few things I wanted before that could happen.  I wanted to get married and I wanted to have a child of my own.  My hubby agreed and so our journey began.

We lived together for about 3 years and finally tied the knot on September 13, 2008, with our friends and family present!  It was a wonderful celebration and the beginning of a wonderful life.  In January 2009 we really started talking about having a baby.  We visited a fertility clinic in Kansas City to see what our options were as Brian was "fixed".  We were told that we could have a baby but it was going to be expensive.  So the idea was put on hold for lack of funding.  I had kind of put the thought out of mind and was busy with work, school and family, but then I met someone that opened my eyes to the possibility of having a baby again.

I met a nurse though the VA where I work.  She told me that her husband was going to have a vasectomy reversal done through the VA.  I didn't think this was possible since it was an elective type of surgery and the VA did not typically do elective surgery.  I called the KCVA and spoke with the nurse for the urologist and was told that yes the VA does do reversal surgery.  That was a very happy day!  I couldn't wait to tell Brian.

Due to Brian's time spent in Iraq in 2007-2008, he was qualified to go to the VA for services. So we made an appointment, got a referral for urology at the KCVA and things started coming together.  Brian had his first visit at the KCVA in early 2010 and was scheduled for his reversal surgery April 2010.  The surgery went very well and then the wait began.  We had to wait at least a month before we could do anything.  We waited out that month and threw caution to the wind and started trying thinking it would take several months before I was able to get pregnant.

Three months went by and Mother Nature brought her monthly gift to me each month.  I was very sad and disappointed.  Even though I did not expect for it to happen right away, I was still discourage.  I decided I would stop thinking about it and it would happen when it was supposed to.  My hubby told me to stop worrying and it would happen in time. So I stopped worrying.

August rolled around and I was expecting my monthly gift from Mother Nature again.  It was due to arrive on the 2nd, and it didn't.  I didn't put much thought into not receiving my gift as I figured it was just taking it's time to arrive.  Several days passed and still no gift.  I was starting to get excited, but didn't want to get my hopes up if it was just a fluke.  My hubby and I took his girls on a trip to Chicago the first weekend in August. Still no gift.  So the morning after we got home, when I was 8 days late, I decided I would take a test.

About 6:30 am on 08/10/10 I had the first little word on a digital display that changed my life forever ----pregnant-----

I couldn't believe it!  I was so happy!  I woke up my sleeping husband because I couldn't wait to tell him.  He was excited and we were both a little surprised that it happened so fast!

So now it is almost the end of September, the first day of fall and I am 11 weeks and 2 days closer to being a mommy!  We had our first doctor's visit on 09/20/10.  We hoped to hear the baby's heartbeat, but the baby didn't want to be heard so they did an ultrasound and even better that hearing a heartbeat was seeing our baby!  The appointment went well, the baby was fine and right on target for a due date of April 13, 2011!  The funny thing about the baby's due date is it's already taken.  Whitney's birthday is April 13.  But in true fashion, I'm sure that the baby will either be early or late and Whitney's birthday is safe!

And so the journey continues….
